The co-founder of a huge $4 billion crypto pyramid scheme is pleading responsible to cash laundering and wire fraud costs, in keeping with the U.S. Division of Justice (DOJ).

Karl Sebastian Greenwood co-founded the notorious OneCoin fraud with Ruja Ignatova, who’s often known as “Cryptoqueen.”

Ignatova, the chief of the rip-off, has been a fugitive since 2017 and was positioned on the FBI’s Ten Most Wished record earlier this 12 months.

Greenwood and Ignatova began OneCoin in 2014 and operated the corporate as a multi-level advertising and marketing (MLM) community, in keeping with the DOJ. OneCoin’s promotional supplies point out greater than three million individuals ended up investing of their fraudulent crypto choices. Greenwood and his colleagues allegedly falsely claimed that OneCoin maintained a non-public blockchain.

Explains the DOJ,

“OneCoin data present that, between the fourth quarter of 2014 and the fourth quarter of 2016 alone, OneCoin generated €4.03 billion ($4.56 billion) in gross sales income and earned ‘income’ of €2.73 billion ($2.90 billion).

Ignatova served as OneCoin’s prime chief till her disappearance from public view in October 2017. Greenwood was OneCoin’s ‘international grasp distributor’ and the chief of the MLM community by which the fraudulent cryptocurrency was marketed and bought.”

Greenwood was arrested in Thailand in 2018 and extradited to the USA later that 12 months. He has been detained since his arrest and has pled responsible to the fees in a federal courtroom in Manhattan. He faces a most potential sentence of 60 years in jail.
